Visit to Kingswood Residential Activity Centre October 2018

We have arranged a visit to go to the Kingswood Residential Activity Centre in  Dearne Valley, Doncaster. This very popular residential visit will take place from Wednesday 24th October until Friday 26th October 2018 and is open to next year’s Year 5 and 6 pupils (Years 4 and 5 now), although the Year 6 places will be allocated first, as this is their final chance to go. The centre gives the children the opportunity to try lots of different activities, as well as work in co-operative teams with other children. All activities are lead by qualified instructors and there will be members of Skegby Academy staff on site at all times.

Visit to Churnet Valley Railway Monday 5th March 2018

We are taking Year's 5 & 6 on a trip to Churnet Valley Railway as part of our Topic on World War Two.

The trip will take place on Monday 5th March 2018.

“The Churnet Valley Railway takes you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel on a rural line that passes through beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire's "Little Switzerland".

As the visit will involve an evacuee experience, we would like the children to dress in character as an evacuee during World War Two.

The day will involve:

EXPERIENCE an Evacuee ‘Auction’ and a 10 mile round train trip hauled by a heritage locomotive.

LISTEN to the story of Dorothy who lived in the station house throughout the war.

USE your ID Cards and Ration Books (supplied by the railway).

LEARN about Rationing and taste wartime recipes.

TRAIN to be a member of The Royal Observer Corps.

DECIDE what to pack in your tiny suitcase and handle artefacts from the period.

EXPERIENCE the ‘Blackout’ through the tunnel with the Air Raid Siren and the ‘All Clear’.

TALK and LISTEN to either wartime veterans or ‘real life’ evacuees.
